According to the survey conducted by the China Nonwoven&Industrial Textile Association on nearly 300 sample enterprises, the textile industry's business cycle index for 2022 is 57.3, which is significantly lower than the same period in 2021 (73.8), but it has rebounded above PMI in the first half of 2022.
According to preliminary statistics from the association, in 2022, the total fiber production volume of China's textile industry reached 19.6 million tons, YoY+1.1%. The import value of industrial textiles was $6.13 billion, YoY-15.9%. As the main raw material of industrial textiles, the production of non-woven fabric was 8.35 million tons, YoY+1.8%, and the export of non-woven fabric rolls reached 1.208 million tons, YoY-11.9%, valued at $3.99 billion, YoY-12.1%. The export to countries like Vietnam, South Korea, and the United States all decreased by more than 10%.
In the first quarter of 2023, the export value of China's textile industry was $9.83 billion, YoY-13.8%; The import value was $1.23 billion, YoY-17.7%. The export volume of non-woven fabrics was 293000 tons, YoY-2.8%, with a value of $930 million, YoY-7.8%.
After two years of high-level development, the significantly increased production capacity of non-woven fabrics began to release in 2022, while the demand for downstream market declined and caused a decrease in the operating rate of enterprises in the field of clean and hygienic non-woven fabrics, intensifying competition and decreasing profitability. But the trend of consumption upgrading will drive the growth of demand for downstream products such as sanitary products, personal cleaning products, beauty supplies, and automotive decorations. Besides, traditional low-end non-woven fabric products will not be able to meet the demand in the rapidly changing market, the overall industry structure will be optimized. The trend of consumption classification in domestic market is becoming increasingly obvious.
